Seven Great Comets Between 1298 and 1314

'Seven great comets' between 1298 and 1314 were seen over Europe

'Seven great comets' between 1298 and 1314 were seen over Europe. One of these comets is described as an ''awe-inspiring blackness''. Many reports of foul smelling ''mists'' appeared continually after seeing bright lights in the sky, followed by an outbreak of the plague. It appears ''the plague'' does not mean the Black Death, but a previous outbreak of disease of unknown origin. This outbreak would seem to coincide with the Great Famine of 1315.
